Lent Day 9

He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.

I invite you to linger in these words of Psalm 23 and wonder like me do you find yourself asking why the shepherd our Lord leads us in paths of righteousness FOR HIS NAME SAKE? I’ve read this Psalm so many times over the years but only now considering and asking what does that mean for me.

Over the last days we have considered how the Lord takes us to green pastures and leads us to quiet waters for our refreshing, well being and restoration but here He leads us on paths of righteousness for His name sake. We are guided on these paths for a reason, to glorify, honour and witness to His name.

This is a privilege but also an awesome responsibility because the way we live or do life reflects well or badly on the Good Shepherd, our Lord’s name and character.
When we fail to live righteously we get hurt but the name of God is hurt more.

Lord we are thankful that you lead us on paths of righteousness. Help us to follow your lead and help us not stray. Where we have forgive us and help us to get back on track. Lord may you be glorified in and through our lives and may our lives always we be a faithful witness to who You are.

These words of a Keith Green song O Lord You’re Beautiful come to mind:
‘And when I'm doing well
Help me to never seek a crown
For my reward is giving glory to You.’
